39 Products On Amazon That You Didn’t Realize You’d Get A Ton Of Daily Use Out Of

When is a product actually worth more than you spend on it? Easy: when you purchase a product that you end up relying on so much more than you ever thought possible. These products on Amazon that you didn’t realize you’d get a ton of daily use out of range from kitchen tools to facial serums. But they all share that one incredible quality in common: use them once or twice, and you’ll be completely hooked, which makes them worth every penny and then some. A useful product doesn’t always try and reinvent the wheel, but rather takes a design that already exists and kicks its usefulness up a few notches. You may be perfectly happy with your vacuum cleaner and handheld vacuum, but both work far better when you’re cleaning up large debris and messes. A miniature crumb and dust sweeper that’s so compact it can be used on laptop keyboards? Now that’s an alternative cleaner that you never knew you needed (but will use every single day). The same holds true for the other innovative products on this list — like a razor extension handle for easier hair removal, a deodorizing candle, and the smartest plug on the planet — one that sends you updates on...

While working on a project recently, I required a capacitor of around 1000 μF and went rummaging

While working on a project recently, I required a capacitor of around 1000 μF and went rummaging through my collection of parts. No luck there. At that point I’d usually go through my collection of junk electronics and computer motherboards, but I had recently gone through and tossed the stuff that had been laying around for as long as I could remember. No matter, I thought. I’ll just head over to RadioShack and… Now, I have been accused of many things over the years, but “deep” is certainly not one of them. Yet, at this moment I had what could only be described as an existential crisis. There is no RadioShack, not in my state at least. I don’t live in an area that’s blessed with a maker “scene”, so no independent shop or even a hackerspace within reasonable driving distance of me either. I could order it online of course, but everyone’s trying to sell them in bulk and shipping will take a few days at least. A few days? Who knows where my interests will be in a few days. How can I get anything done under these conditions? Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I got in the car and took a ride to the only place I knew where I could by electronic components for cheap: Goo...

Flexibility Is Key to Material Handling | 2016-02-08

Easily configured, the VarioFlow plus chain conveyor is designed for a wide range of applications, such as transporting small items to workstations, or moving large products over complex routes or through limited-space environments. Using Creform components, engineers can quickly design and assembly a variety of common structures, including flow racks, workstations, stands, display boards, carts and AGVs. The Flex Craft modular framing system lets engineers build flow racks, workstations, carts and pneumatic scissor lifts efficiently using only nuts and bolts. A new, advanced configuration tool, called IMPACT (Interactive Modeling Program and Application Configuration Tools), enables engineers to configure the conveyors exactly as needed. Hamilton Caster & Manufacturing Co. makes industrial casters and wheels with load capacities from 200 to 40,000 pounds. Getting the right parts, to the right spot, at the right time is a requirement for any assembly line. If that’s your challenge, you would have found plenty of interest at The ASSEMBLY Show, which hosted some 37 suppliers of conveyors, material handling equipment, and modular structural framing components. Here is a small s...

Hispano Suiza Carmen Debuts In Geneva With 1930′s Style, 1,005 HP

Hispano Suiza Cars dropped several teasers of its new electric supercar leading up to its official reveal at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Oddly, one of those teasers revealed all the technical information for the curvaceous machine you see here, called the Carmen. The shadows are now gone, however, giving us a full view of the niche two-seater. And it’s definitely different. To refresh your memory, The Hispano Suiza Carmen is fully electric, and the stats suggest it’s no slouch. Dual electric motors at each rear wheel generate a combined 1,005 horsepower, with power coming from a T-shaped Lithium Ion battery pack that runs low along the car’s central spine. Provided you aren’t constantly exercising the Carmen’s prolific accelerative performance, Hispano Suiza says range should exceed 248 miles (400 kilometers) on a charge. Speaking of performance, the Carmen is said to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in under three seconds, with a top speed limited electronically to 155 mph (250 km/h). Unlike many other crazy powerful electric cars, the Carmen only turns the rear wheels. The automaker utilizes some electronic wizardry to keep the back in check, and to also vector power between the drive ...

Yes, it’s Chinese, built down to a price and has performance that won’t set the world

Yes, it’s Chinese, built down to a price and has performance that won’t set the world on fire, but the Zontes T 310 is also a hell of a lot of surprisingly well-equipped bike for the money. It’s comfortable, smooth, swift, doesn’t panic when you show it a corner and way cheaper than its A2 licence-friendly and even 125cc rivals. Only time will tell how durable it will be and what it will be worth a few years down the line, but engines have always been bulletproof and Zontes build quality has moved on from the bad old days of Chinese bargain buckets. Granted, it doesn’t ride with the grace of a Ducati, or have refined controls of a Honda, but you know what? It isn’t half bad, especially when you keep reminding yourself the ticket price starts with a three. Even the major manufacturers would struggle to produce so much metal for so little. Once you’ve picked yourself up off the floor from the shock of the impressive spec list, you’ll ride down the road and discover the Zontes does nothing wrong on the move. There are no nasty vibes from the engine, thanks to its balance shaft, it doesn’t go one way when you want to go the other and everything works exactly as it should. It doesn’...

The Ultra-Pure, Super-Secret Sand That Makes Your Phone Possible

Fresh from church on a cool, overcast Sunday morning in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, Alex Glover slides onto the plastic bench of a McDonald’s booth. He rummages through his knapsack, then pulls out a plastic sandwich bag full of white powder. “I hope we don’t get arrested,” he says. “Someone might get the wrong idea.” Glover is a recently retired geologist who has spent decades hunting for valuable minerals in the hillsides and hollows of the Appalachian Mountains that surround this tiny town. He is a small, rounded man with little oval glasses, a neat white mustache, and matching hair clamped under a Jeep baseball cap. He speaks with a medium‑strength drawl that emphasizes the first syllable and stretches some vowels, such that we’re drinking CAWWfee as he explains why this remote area is so tremendously important to the rest of the world. Spruce Pine is not a wealthy place. Its downtown consists of a somnambulant train station across the street from a couple of blocks of two‑story brick buildings, including a long‑closed movie theater and several empty storefronts. The wooded mountains surrounding it, though, are rich in all kinds of desirable rocks, some valued for their ind...
